Do the complications associated with perioperative hypothermia give you the chills? Turn up the heat on complications by prewarming your patients in pre-op.

As noted in The Ochsner Journal, Anesthesia alters thermoregulatory mechanism in a way that causes patient body temperatures to dip during surgery. Anesthesia also prevents patients from moving to a warmer environment. Decreased metabolism and the cold environment may also cause the patient to become hypothermic.
